In the past I have explained how Jewelry Cad Dream software has a very powerful engine to do complex designs as well as the flexibility for you to change any file at any time.

So to make a comparison I had a friend who knows most CAD programs make a video of the three main Jewelry Cad Design programs on the market making and opening the same item made with the different programs .

It is a must watch video.

An eye opener.

The three program engines are Rhino which is used by Rhino Gold and Matrix V8, 3 Design and Jewelry Cad Dream who’s engine is ZWSoft.

Preview. All on the same computer.

1.Rhino Engine.

Includes Rhino Gold and Matrix V8. 

Importing a file around 500mb

The file took just under 6 minutes to load.

The program was sluggish and slow when moving the object around the screen.

The software has difficulty handling a complex piece.

In designing at this level the program is time consuming and difficult.

2. 3Design Engine.

The file took just under 16 minutes to try to load the file and then froze meaning it could not cope with the file complexity.

The software is no good for designing such a complex piece.

3. Jewelry Cad Dream engine.

The file took 2.5minutes to load.

The software has no difficulty handling a complex piece.

When designing at this level JCD has no problems.

This shows the difference between under powered programs and a high powered program.

This is why the opposition tried to buy ZW’s engine as they know they are selling software that is inferior but they won’t tell you that. They are happy to sell you a lemon.

The video comparison starts with the Rhino engine, then 3Design and finally Jewelry Cad Dream.

Watch for yourself and you can make up your own mind.

They will say the file was incompatible.

I was as it was to large for their programs to handle.

Try it for yourself.

Make the item we did and see if the program handles it on your program that you use.

Rhino took forever to load the file.

3Design crashed and didn’t have the capacity to open the file.

Jewelry Cad Dream opened it without bother and then we proceeded to alter it.

You too can try this test with a large file but I don’t see the other software up to the challenge.

That’s because Jewelry Cad Dream has a very powerful engine.

As I have said in the past.

Its like comparing a 4 cylinder motor vehicle with a V8.

There is no comparison.

If you had the choice which do you think would satisfy you as a designer the most.

Buy a computer capable of using 3D patterns software.

This is no particular computer but make sure the specs and graphics card are made for 3D graphics programs.

Don’t make the mistake of buying an off the shelf computer that is not up to the specs as it will only frustrate you if it is slow or hangs through overload.

If you buy it from a known retailer make sure you have the option of changing the computer or getting your money back if they mislead you. Explain to them what you need it for and then under the consumer laws in most countries if they sell you one that does not work you are protected under ” Consumer guarantees act”.

Step 2

Buy two screens for your design computer.

When you are learning Jewelry Cad Dream or any Cad Program it pays to have two screens.

You can have Jewelry Cad Dream software working on one screen while watching the lessons working on the other.

This helps you learn the program faster.

Look at a section of the lesson you are learning as you stop and start (freeze) the lesson on the other screen in small segments. rewind, learn and try and continue until you have perfected the lesson.

You will find that there is so much information, if you were to watch the whole lesson you would be overwhelmed and won’t learn anything.

Go slow and learn fast.

Step 3

Buy Jewelry Cad Dream software.

It is the best and gives you files that are not static. (Files that are static cannot be altered after they are saved. Generally these programs have what is called direct editing, which is editing on the run which is fast but once saved for printing cannot be altered so in the long run they are one off’s and no good for the new counter studios. They also end up costing you more time than you save.

Jewelry Cad Dream software files have alterable history that can be altered at any time.

So you can create parent – offspring files and save them as different objects.

Buy Jewelry Cad Dream light or professional software.

 You have a choice of two programs. One cheap and the other not so cheap.

The worst Cad Designer is the self taught designer.

Buy a Big Smart Screen Television to display the fact that you make Bespoke Jewelry on your premises.

You can  display your patterns and the Jewelry Cad Dream Counter Studio in your retail store. If clients come to your store you can give them options if you connect a cordless key board to the big screen.

Step 7

Connect your shop display to the internet.

Connect to the internet.

When you connect to the internet you are given more options.

You can click on photos in Google and come up with all the images you will ever need.

This is just to get ideas so your clients wishes can be meet.

From this you can use you Jewelry Cad Dream program to design  the exact item your client requires.

It also allows options.

Step 8

Have a special studio room.

A big screen TV in the actual shop gives you a very effective visual studio but if you have serious clients wanting buy high quality items you may wish to have a private studio room to discuss their requirements by appointment.

This adds to the prestige factor.

You can either

a) Design the item by the old way of drawing their design (this takes time) and then create their design on the Jewelry Cad Dream software.

or

b) Go to the internet and show them the different ideas they are looking for. From this you can discuss alterations and then design their wishes on the Jewelry Cad Dream software.

Remember anything you design on Jewelry Cad Dream can be altered at any time. This gives you flexibility with design and you can add the items to your library of designs which will grow with time. All designs you make, buy or come with the Jewelry Counter Design Studio can be displayed. All patterns made with Jewelry Cad Dream software can be added to Jewelry Counter Design Studio.

3D Printers

Manuel uses Jewelry Cad Dream 2015 software . He prints all his items and sells  3DSYSTEMS.

I find that resin printers are good to show your clients the finished item before you cast.

You have a choice between buying a 3D resin printer or send your STL files to a 3D Printing and Manufacturing Service Bureau.

At this stage my advice is think hard before you buy a 3D printer.

The maintenance costs can be huge and technology is moving very quick.

a) If you send your 3D STL files to a 3D Printing and Manufacturing Bureau, they will print the items and send either the resin or wax items back to you or you can have them cast the item in the metal you require. The Bureaus I want to set up will print or cast or manufacture your item to the finished state. At any time you can specify what you want and they will give you the price to the stage you require.

These can be set up and are in any country.

b) Buy your own resin printer so you can print the item to show your customer. These can be spray painted in Silver or Gold, set and shown to your client before the final item is manufactured.

There is a third option and that is to set up a cooperative. Like minded people in a group buying to supply themselves and others for their mutual benefit.

Each person can pay an amount of equal proportion to buy the best printer they can afford.

All expenses are shared for the printer but so are the profits.

There are several types of printers.

Wax printers are best for lost wax casting.

Step 10

 Casting

All 3D printed items that are to be made in precious metal will need to be cast.

Steps for casting

A) treeing waxes. These can include 3D printed waxes.

 

I find that casting resin requires additional burn out cycles and is difficult to cast.  It also gives unpredictable results. Each bad experience (Item porosity) costs money and time.

Wax printers are better for casting.(This is my opinion through experience)

B) Invest the items. This is a type of plaster of paris which can take heat.

C) Burnout cycle. Burns out through a cycle to create a hollow core.

D) Taken out of the can and ready for bench work.

E) Bench work

All castings are made and finished via the bench.

F) Finished item for delivery to your client

Important Advice

When you want to get into this market don’t make expensive mistakes.

It can cost you a fortune if you make mistakes.

Also it is your pathway to independence.

The sooner you start with this software the sooner you will have files that you can alter.

If you already have Jewelry Software ask yourself two questions.

Has your software got an independent counter studio and or can you alter and produce the items independent of any big corporation.

If the answer is yes then you are lucky.

If the answer is no then you are placing your future and time on making someone else rich at your expense. (Time). The most expensive gift.

You can always make money.

Each day you are given 24 hours but if you waste that time has gone forever.

In the end it is your choice to how little or how far you want to proceed with new technology.

Dreams are free but mistakes are costly.

Some Jewelry blog Groups will not publish this because it is too hard for them to accept.

Some say I am pushing my own agender for my own gain.

Believe what you want.

Some jewellers are going to ZW thinking they can create Jewelry from the engine.

You can create Jewelry from the platform but you don’t get the technology or the brilliance of Jewelry Cad Dream.

Its like a blank piece of canvas and starting again.

Jewelry Cad Dream software has taken years to establish and create this brilliant program.

It has everything at your fingertips you will ever need to create Jewellery and getting better all the time.

“But I can make another one if I need to alter it for another customer”.

You can.

Some publish their rendered files on facebook in the groups to show their talent.

Gemvision Matrix V8 users : Advice from a Matrix Guru, Bob Hunter.

Everyone who uses Gemvision Matrix should read this.

I am a cad jewelry designer with 10 years of cad experience using Matrix. I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 7000 models under my belt.
Before I got into cad, I worked at the bench for 32 years.

I am currently learning Jewelry Cad Dream. History is what is driving my decision to learn the software. The funny part about all of this is that Gemvision actually has a version that uses a very dynamic and powerful history tree already developed. It’s called CounterSketch. I helped Gemvision populate the original version of CounterSketch with models. I think I did 50 or so, I can’t remember the exact number but I got to use the design software created to build the models that are then loaded into CounterSketch. It was that history tree that got me excited about history in the first place. I have been asking Gemvision to include the CounterSketch approach to history in Matrix for years. The response I have gotten is that it was developed under Stuller’s watch, Stuller owns it so it’s not going to happen.
Matrix has some history related functions but the biggest problem is that as soon as you modify a piece of geometry it looses it’s history. So once a seat is cut or a sweep is capped you can’t go back and modify the original curve you used the create it and have it update.

So…that brings me to Jewelry Cad Dream. In terms of history it is incredibly powerful. The learning curve is pretty steep but being able to go back in the history tree and change something and have everything update based on the change you made is fantastic. It also makes you be a more precise modeler. That makes some things take longer but in the long run if you are ever going to need to modify a model in the future, it is ultimately worth the extra time.

At this point I still use Matrix as my primary modeling software. This is mostly because I have been using it every day for the last 10 years. As a result I’m much faster in Matrix than Jewelry Cad Dream. But I can see myself moving over to JCD more and more. I’m sure within the next year the ratio of time spent between the two will be reversed.

I love having both software packages. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. When it comes to direct editing Matrix/Rhino is hard to beat. When it comes to making changes JCD is the clear winner. As far as designing goes, probably how you approach the design process will determine which you prefer. Matrix is more hands on direct editing, JDC is more process oriented. JDC is becoming more direct editing friendly so that difference may disappear over time.

I have been blow away at the speed of development at Jewelry Cad Dream. If the next two years brings the kind of improvement that last two have brought, there will be nothing on the market to compete. They are working incredibly hard to make it the best tool available.

Knowing what I know about both software packages, if I were having to choose only one, I think I would go with JCD. Gemvision has dropped the ball in terms of development. JCD seems very devoted to continuing development.

You have heard this from Bob Hunter. Make comments if you think he is out of order and wrong in the statements he makes.

If you don’t believe Bob then then rubbish it.

Just a few questions for the Gemvision team.

Why won’t Mr Stella incorporate alterable history in Matrix and why does Christopher Burger say that alterable history is not important when it obviously is where it comes to CounterSketch?

Do they take you as idiots?

Over time the jewelry Cad Dream files will become a commodity and be very valuable.
It appears to me from what Bob has stated that the CounterSketch files where very valuable to Stella because he designed it around history so his team could make alterations and sell the items to the jewelers around the world so everyone who bought the Counter sketch package is forced to go to him to have items altered.
His program Matrix does not give you that privilege and won’t in the future.

Why would Mr Stella allow you to be able to change his production files or create your own with Matrix. To do so would be counter productive for Mr Stella’s finances.

How can Christopher Burger who works for Stella say that history is not important. If it was not important then countersketch would not work for Stella.

To Gemvision it is not important because if the people who buy Matrix could alter their files at will like JCD files then you would not want Countersketch. You would have your own alterable files without having to buy them from Mr Stella.

So in my opinion Mr Stella has Matrix users under his control.

And just think how valuable the files that are in Countersketch are to Stella. He has the seed program to alter those files which he keeps for himself because that makes those files his commodity.
With Jewelry Cad Dream you have the program that allows you to make your files a salable commodity.

So what I say is the sooner you learn jewelry Cad Dream the sooner you have the power to make your files a marketable commodity for yourself.
Give the power to the user.
